Dividend Stocks
We all know that banks today are not the best place to put our money. Saving accounts hardly pay any interest on your balance. At the same time, banks want to impose new maintenance and transaction fees for accessing your money. Of course, we still need a bank account to pay bills and conduct business, not to mention the convenience of plastic.
Personally, I only keep what I need for monthly expenses and emergency fund in my savings and checking accounts. The rest are in money market for investment purposes. Out of the investment fund, I take a portion and invest in stable or blue chip dividend stocks. I found that with relatively low investment, some can pay a decent rate of return.
For example:
Stock A at $9.5 per share has a dividend yield of 8.59% and pays quarterly. At 1000 shares, the cost is $9500 and pays approximately $200 every quarter, or $800 annually. That is an annual rate of almost 9%.
Stock B costs $9830 per 1000 shares at the time of my purchase, and pays 9.5% or approximately $77 per month.
Stock C costs $6800 per 1000 shares, and pays $420 annually.
Compared to the average savings account which pays only 0.51%, these are much higher yields. With an investment of approx $26,000 in just three dividend stocks yields over $2000 per year. I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box. But I personally think investing in dividend stocks pays. Granted, you would still have to do homework and investigate the companies you invest in, and there is always a risk to the loss of capital as with any investment. But, this is a low risk alternative to saving accounts for me.

A Wonderful Date, Dinner & Movie

A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Dinner!
It's been quite awhile since the two of us had a "romantic" meal together. Some of you may be able to relate! We work full time so by the time we get home, we are exhausted and not motivated to go out. However, last night Mike decided that we need to go on a dinner and movie date together! :) We had a delicious dinner at Long Horn Steak House (thanks to Mom for the gift card!) .
When we got to the parking lot, I saw the strangest scene! We were encountered by 2 huffing and puffing Roosters in the middle of congested Fort Lauderdale! Mike's theory is that they must have escaped from a nearby restaurant.....
Looks like this Rooster is checking out the local establishments! |
A Night Out for the Roosters or escaping for their lives?

Total Discount = Coupons $9.19 + Extra Care Bucks $4.00 (buy $12 or more in selected Glade producs and receive $4.00 ExtraCareBucks) = $13.19
Net Cost - $15.38 - $13.19 = $2.19
There are a couple of other free deals such as Carmex Moisture Plus and Almay Mascara today as well. However, after a few years of "coupon" shopping, we've decided that we won't purchase items that we don't use or won't need, or have someone to give them to. We find that this helps us not to center our lives around finding the next deal. Instead, we would like to incorporate coupons and savings into our lives, but not the other way around!

2012 NASCAR SEASON
The Daytona 500 kicks off the 2012 NASCAR season. Will smoken Tony Stewart pick up where he left off winning five out of ten chase races including a hard fought battle of determination to win the final race at Homestead Speedway overcoming early damage and having to come from the back multiple times to take the 2011 Championship?
Will Flipping Carl Edwards mount a bid for the 2012 NASCAR Championship after loosing out to Tony Stewart in dramatic form for the 2011 championship, after an edge of your seat race at Homestead Speedway where Carl ran consistently up front but came up short when Tony won, with Carl in second?
Or maybe NASCAR's bad boy Kyle Bush can put it all together with aggressive, on the jagged edge driving style while keeping his temper in check, taking the championship in a cloud of smoke and unrivaled car control.
No one knows for sure, but one thing is clear, it's going to be a tire squealing, fast paced, heart pounding and exciting season to watch.

TESTING AT DAYTONA, 2012
Daytona testing showing tandem drafting topped at around 206 mph, while single car laps topped at around 196 mph, and multi-group of cars turning laps around 204 mph. This shows that a two car draft is still the fastest way around the track by 2 mph, which is huge on a super speedway.
Taking away the excitement of close quarters racing. Maybe NASCAR needs to look at making the rear spoiler 5-6 inches and change the configuration of the back and front bumpers, so they don't line up as well, putting the race back in the drivers' hands, and not so much in the arrow dynamics of a two-car draft. This would brings back the big-pack racing and the continuous jockeying for position. This will also encourage the old sling-shot pass with a possible crossover move to counter, moves made famous by the Greats like Dale Earnhardt Sr., David Peirson, Cale Yarbrough, and the King Richard Petty.
